Plan Recessed Lighting Around Your Room
Knightsbridge downlights offer a discreet way to illuminate kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and living spaces. Recessed into the ceiling, they can provide general room lighting, brighten work areas or highlight particular features without a suspended fitting.
Start with how the room is used. A kitchen may need focused light over preparation areas alongside general illumination, while a living room can benefit from downlights combined with wall lights or lamps. Position fittings around furniture and activities rather than relying on an evenly spaced ceiling grid alone.
Fixed or Adjustable
Fixed downlights direct light downwards for general illumination. Tilt models allow you to redirect the beam towards a work area or feature. Compare the available adjustment and beam angle when planning coverage.
Brightness and Colour
Compare lumen output rather than wattage alone. Choose a colour temperature that suits the room, and check whether the fitting has a fixed colour or selectable CCT settings.
Finish and Control
Coordinate bezel finishes with your décor, switches and sockets. If you want adjustable brightness, confirm that the chosen downlight and dimmer are compatible before installation.
Check Cut-Out Sizes, Fire Ratings and Bathroom Suitability
Before choosing a replacement downlight, measure the existing ceiling opening and check the available space above it. Compare the specified cut-out, overall diameter, recessed depth and minimum void. A bezel that covers the opening does not, by itself, confirm that the fitting will install correctly.
Where the ceiling requires fire resistance, select a downlight with testing appropriate to that ceiling construction. Fire-rating periods and suitability can vary between solid timber joists, engineered joists and other ceiling systems. Check the exact product documentation rather than treating all fire-rated downlights as interchangeable.
Bathroom suitability is a separate consideration. Check the fitting’s IP rating, permitted installation position and any distinction between protection from below and above. Fixed and tilt versions within the same range can have different ratings.
Check the installation details: Insulation contact, clearances, ceiling construction and dimming requirements are model-specific. Have your electrician confirm these details before ordering or cutting new ceiling openings.
Explore Featured Downlight Ranges and Matching Accessories
Our current Knightsbridge downlight selection includes RenuLED and SpektroLED EVO. These ranges offer different combinations of light adjustment, fitting styles and decorative finishes. Compare the individual products listed above for available models, accessories and supplied components.
RenuLED Fire-Rated Downlights
RenuLED offers 6W fixed and tilt fittings with selectable 3000K, 4000K and 6500K light. Both support compatible trailing-edge dimming. The fixed model is IP65 from below; the tilt model is IP20 and provides 20-degree adjustment.
Matching accessories: RenuLED bezels are listed in white, matt black, polished chrome, brushed chrome, brass and antique brass. The downlights are supplied with white trim, allowing an alternative finish to be selected where required.
SpektroLED® EVO Fire-Rated Downlights
The standard EVO fixed model offers selectable 5W or 7W operation and four colour temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 6000K. Its controls sit beneath a removable magnetic bezel. The wider family includes tilt, PIR and smart models with different specifications.
Matching accessories: Fixed bezels come in white, matt black, polished chrome, brushed chrome, brushed brass and antique brass. PIR models have their own bezel accessories; select the type specified for your fitting. Tilt models are listed by finish.
The separate SPKEVEMKIT emergency kit is specified for compatible EVO fixed and tilt downlights. It provides three-hour emergency operation and supports maintained and non-maintained use. Check compatibility with the exact model; the kit does not include a downlight.
Complete your fitting: Some downlights include a bezel, while others require one separately. The standard SpektroLED EVO fixed fitting SPKEVF is supplied without a bezel. Check each listing and match accessories by product code rather than finish or appearance alone.
Downlight FAQs
How many downlights do I need in a room?
The number depends on room dimensions, ceiling height, fitting output, beam angle and the activities being lit. Consider other light sources and the positions of furniture and work surfaces. A lighting layout is more reliable than a fixed rule based only on floor area.
What is the difference between fixed and tilt downlights?
Fixed downlights direct light downwards. Tilt downlights allow the beam to be angled towards a feature or working area. Compare adjustment angles, recessed depths and IP ratings, as these can differ between versions.
Are all Knightsbridge downlights suitable for bathrooms?
No. Suitability depends on the exact fitting, its IP rating and the installation position. RenuLED Fixed is IP65 from below and IP20 from above, while RenuLED Tilt is IP20. Have your electrician check the selected model against the requirements of its intended bathroom location.
Does a fire-rated downlight suit every ceiling?
No. Fire-rating tests apply to specified ceiling constructions and installation conditions. Check the manufacturer’s documentation for the required rating, joist type and ceiling system. A fire-rated label alone does not establish suitability for every installation.
Can I dim Knightsbridge LED downlights?
Choose a model specified as dimmable and check its recommended dimmer type and compatibility information. The dimmer must suit the connected LED load and number of fittings. Selectable colour temperature or wattage does not automatically mean a downlight supports dimming.
Are downlight bezels interchangeable between ranges?
Do not assume they are. Match the bezel to the exact range and fitting type using the manufacturer’s product codes. Fixed, tilt and PIR versions can use different accessories, even when the finishes look similar.
Do integrated LED downlights need a separate bulb?
Integrated LED downlights have a built-in light source and do not need a separately purchased GU10 bulb. Lamp-based downlights have different requirements. Check the individual listing for the light source, supplied components and maintenance instructions.
