Choose Ventilation Around Your Room and Installation

Knightsbridge extractor fans help remove moisture-laden air and everyday odours from bathrooms, toilets and utility rooms. Whether you are replacing an existing fan or completing a refurbishment, choose around the room’s ventilation needs and the route through which air will be discharged outside.

Airflow, ducting and controls all affect the choice. A fan that fits an existing opening may still have different performance or wiring requirements from the unit it replaces. Compare the full specifications rather than selecting by faceplate size alone.

Knightsbridge is the lighting and electrical accessories brand from ML Accessories. Use the product code when checking technical documents so you can identify the exact fan, finish and control functions.

Compare Timer, Humidistat and Backlit Fan Options

Overrun Timer Fans

An overrun timer allows extraction to continue after the triggering switch is turned off. Compare the adjustment range and wiring requirements to choose a model suited to your installation.

Humidistat Fans

Humidistat models add humidity-responsive control. Check the available settings and how humidity operation works alongside the timer. This can be useful where moisture levels vary throughout the day.

LED-Backlit Fans

Selected Knightsbridge fans feature an illuminated surround during activation. This adds a decorative detail to the fascia, with finishes that can complement other bathroom fittings. It does not replace normal room lighting.

The manufacturer’s selection includes 100mm/4-inch fans, with white, black and steel finishes across selected models. Check the products listed above for current availability and the functions included with each version.

Check Airflow, Noise Levels and Ducting Before Ordering

Compare extraction rates in litres per second or cubic metres per hour. The airflow required depends on the room and ventilation arrangement, while the installed performance is affected by the duct route, bends and external termination.

Noise matters particularly in en suites and rooms close to bedrooms. Compare stated sound levels under the same measurement conditions, including the distance from the fan. Installation and ducting can also influence the sound heard in the room.

Check the manufacturer’s permitted duct length and mounting arrangement. Some fans are intended for short duct runs, so do not assume that a compact wall or ceiling fan will perform adequately through a long or restrictive route.

A 100mm duct connection does not necessarily mean the required installation opening is exactly 100mm. Compare the specified cut-out, recessed depth, fascia dimensions and fixing positions. Also check which ducting, grille or shutter components are included and which need to be purchased separately.

Replacing a bathroom fan? Have your installer confirm the location, electrical protection, wiring and airflow requirements. Timer and humidistat models may need connections that differ from the existing fan. The IP rating alone does not establish suitability for every bathroom position.

Extractor Fan FAQs

What does an extractor fan overrun timer do?

It allows the fan to continue running for a set period after the triggering switch is turned off. This provides further extraction after the room has been used. Check the model’s timer settings and wiring instructions.

What is the benefit of a humidistat extractor fan?

A humidistat provides humidity-responsive operation rather than relying solely on a switched trigger. Check the individual model’s humidity settings and how they interact with its timer and other controls.

Are 100mm and 4-inch extractor fans the same size?

These are commonly used as equivalent nominal duct-size descriptions. They do not specify the exact ceiling or wall opening. Check the fan’s required cut-out, duct connection and overall dimensions before installation.

Can these fans be installed in a wall or ceiling?

Selected Knightsbridge models permit both arrangements. Check the exact fan’s installation instructions, mounting orientation and ducting restrictions. Do not assume every model suits every wall or ceiling installation.

Can I use an extractor fan with a long duct run?

Only where the fan is specified for that installation. Duct length, bends and restrictions affect airflow. Check the manufacturer’s limits and have your installer select a fan that meets the required performance through the proposed route.

Does an LED-backlit fan replace a bathroom light?

No. The backlit surround on the featured Knightsbridge models is a decorative effect. It is not intended to replace the room’s normal lighting.

Will an extractor fan stop condensation completely?

Effective extraction can help manage moisture, but it does not guarantee that condensation will disappear. Performance depends on the installation, replacement airflow, moisture produced and conditions within the room. Persistent problems may need a wider assessment.
